Annual maintenance is key for your Porsche

Because of the nature of Porsches, we love them, we drive them, but we don't tend to put a lot of miles on them over the course of a year.  That being said the old rule of 3K/5K mile oil change intervals, does not effectively protect your Porsche.  Porsche factory guidelines for oil service is 10K miles-- that is your service indicator on the dash.  We recommend on 3K miles on regular oil and 5K miles on synthetic, or once a year.  Most people like to do this in the spring when they begin the top down weather, while some like to service their Porsche in the autumn just before storing for the winter.  Nonetheless, annual maintenance is key.

Technical Reason for Annual Service

Extended oil change intervals contribute to elevated acid levels in oil which starts to destroy the engine bearing seals and rubber gaskets.  Also short drives break down the oil more rapidly than long drives.  Oil does have a shelf live and you want to protect your Porsche.

A lot has been written about the Porsche IMS bearing in M-96 and M-97 engines, but with the proper knowledge and maintenance, fear does not have to rule you.

Jay places a great focus on safety.  He takes Tech Inspections very seriously.  Mechanical failure or worse can ruin an otherwise great weekend.

Your Porsche's battery is more important than ever before.  In later model cars, the battery is running multiple modules at once and an under voltage can cause warning lights, as well as a number of expensive other problems. A full diagnostic check of your battery life is part of our annual maintenance.

It never hurts to do your homework before hand.  When looking to purchase a pre-owned Porsche, have a PPI done.  Prior to the end of your Factory Warranty, have a qualified Porsche mechanic look for any developing issues.  This could save you thousands of dollars.

At The Popular Mechanic, you have direct communication with your mechanic, and we encourage this. We take the time to explain things to you so you understand exactly how systems work and how it affects your ride. Feel free to ask Jay any question regarding your Porsche.
